MONTHLY REPORTS TO THE BOARD MEETING.
- LADIES MEDIA.
- LADIES MATCH COMMITTEE.
- MEN'S MATCH COMMITTEE.
As stated in my last report, the Media Coverage has been very good. Sunraysia Daily has published all articles and photos that I have sent to them.
Mildura Independent (On Line), have done the same, plus Max’s 1611 Local Radio morning news.
The Bowls Show each Friday morning, with Mark, Peter and Wayne still give me great coverage each week.
May I also add that Graeme Hicks has also put all my correspondence onto the BSD Web site each week, and is doing a great job.
As stated all is going O.K. at the present time.

MIDWEEK COMPETITIONS REPORT
The State finals for this event was held at Yarraville/Footscray. MMBR representatives were Diane Gardner and Margaret Robinson from Mildura B/C. Congratulations to both on a wonderful performance in coming equal third in the State.
BSD was represented by Merle Hogg from Merbein B/C. Merle was defeated in the MMBR finals. Well done Merle.
- MURRAY MALLEE REGIONAL FINALS.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SINGLES – Sunday 5th February, 2017 AT NYAH B/C
Sunraysia representative Judy Osborne won her two games to now qualify to play in Bendigo during Champions week.
- STATE SINGLES – Sunday 5th February, 2017 AT NYAH B/C
Sunraysia representative Diane Gardner won through to the Final only to be defeated by L. Critten.
All of the games played at Nyah were played in oppressive 97% humidity. This had a great effect on Diane as she was well ahead but succumbed to the conditions.
- STATE PAIRS – Sunday 5th February, 2017 at Nyah B/C
Sunraysia’s pair of A. Clarke and T. Metcalfe were defeated by Northern in the Semi Final. After losing a six early they fought back bravely but couldn’t quite head the opposition.
- STATE FOURS – Sunday 12TH February, 2017 at Murray Downs B/C
Sunraysia’s Four of A. Clarke, J. Murenu, J. Watson and T. Metcalfe won their semi-final against Northern by 2 shots after getting a four on the last end when down on the card. They got off to a wonderful start in the final against Tyrell leading 15/0. After a bit of a lapse then went on to win comfortably to now qualify to play in Champions Week at Bendigo.
- STATE TRIPLES – Sunday 12th February, 2017 at Murray Downs B/C
Sunraysia’s Triple of P. Russell, S. Pupillo and J. Osborne were defeated in the Semi Final. After two ends they were down 7/0 and fought back to be 15 all on the penultimate end. Holding shot and game on the last end Northern’s Roma Opie sat out the shot bowl with the last bowl of the game to take the win.
- MIXED STATE PAIRS held at Mildura on 31st December – 1st January.
Winners of the BSD event were O. Giddings and B. Minter.
Disappointing that this event was scheduled on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Numbers entered due to these dates went from 20 teams last year to only 8. In trying to increase participation rates in all of our BSD events it beggars belief that this event was held over the New Year period when many are on holiday or celebrating with family and friends.
- MIXED STATE PAIRS – Sunday 17th February at Swan Hill Racecourse B/C
Sunraysia pair of Owen Giddings and Betty Minter went down in the Semi Final against Northern. Comment was that they couldn’t cope with the condition of the green.
- JUBILEE DAY – Tuesday 14th February at the Irymple B/C
12 triples took to the green for this annual event. The Jubilee Tray was presented to all Groups in 1992 to celebrate 50 years of VLBA. It started out as a Fours event with single entries drawn into teams at Club level. Then due to lack of numbers went to Triples with the same format, drawn at Club level. It has since changed to nominated Club triples. Winners this year were the team of N. Mason, M. Scheele and J. Osborne from Mildura B/C. Runner-up was Jessie Murenu’s team from Irymple. Thank you to the Irymple B/C for hosting this event.
- HEAYSMAN PAIRS – Friday 17th February at the Mildura B/C
This event is still very popular but the hot weather over the previous weeks resulted in some players not chancing the weather. 18 teams participated. After 4 games of 10 ends, 3 bowl pairs the only 4 game winner taking out this event were Pat Russell and Lois Smyth. Runner-up were Judy Osborne and Shirley Pupillo with 3 games and 85 points. Just missing out was D. Jackson and W. Blink on 84 points and A. Clarke and J. Watson 82 points. Thank you to the Mildura Club for hosting this event. Lovely trophies by the Heaysman family and BSD once again.
- MIDWEEK PENNANT MEETING will be held at the Red Cliffs B/C on Friday 24th February at 11.00 am.

MEN’S MATCH COMMITTEE REPORT
21 FEBRUARY 2017
This is my last report for Season 2016-17 and I’d like to thank all the Club’s who hosted events and made their facilities available. To all members of the Match Committee for your support and efforts during the season, thank you.
Congratulations to all the winners:
Over 60’s Singles – Wayne Gardner
Over 60’s Pairs – Peter & Nev. Mitchell
State Singles - P. Mitchell
State Pairs – Brandon and Brian Tyers
State Triples – D. Cordwell, Scott Pollock and Josh Lee
State Fours – C. Mitchell, M. Fazulla, R. Hanns, R. Gardner
Mixed Pairs – Owen Giddings & Betty Minter
Champ Singles – Brody Harker
Champ Pairs – S. Simmonds & C. Lockett
Champ Fours –R. Bray, B. Pollock, M. Rhoden & R. Clarke
All events were played as programmed without any changes to those members critical of some decisions and believing there is plenty of time to run these events we can only point out that there is only 20 week to complete 11 events, in that 20 weeks, 17 Saturday’s had Pennant and we need to allow 2 days (minimum) per event, two events State Triples and Fours were played in the evening in the warmer months, now you should be able to do the math’s and conclude that there is not all that much time to complete these events by the due date.
Some recommendations are:
That we possibly hold some events before Sunraysia Season is open;
That the State Triples and Fours still be held in the evenings in warmer months;
The Champ of Champ Fours be played in March where they used to be played.
Some events like Over 60 Singles and Pairs be played the same time as the women, this would free up some days; possible could combine ladies and men’s on at the same time and venue.
The State Mixed Pairs be scheduled in Aug, Sep.
In conclusion, I have enjoyed may time on the Match Committee, and I have had a good team to work with and supported me, and to Sunraysia President and Board who have provided me with information and support thank you.
Chairman, Match Committee
